Periodontal Treatment

Periodontitis is a set of inflammatory diseases affecting the periodontium, i.e., the tissues that surround and support the teeth. Periodontitis involves progressive loss of the alveolar bone around the teeth, and if left untreated, can lead to the loosening and subsequent loss of teeth. A diagnosis of periodontitis is established by inspecting the soft gum tissues around the teeth with a probe and by evaluating the patient's X-ray films, to determine the amount of bone loss around the teeth. The cornerstone of successful periodontal treatment starts with establishing excellent oral hygiene. Regular professional care from a dentist or periodontist is required to maintain the health of affected teeth.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth is infected through decay or injury. Infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth. This may eventually lead to an abscess. If root canal treatment (RCT) is not carried out, the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be taken out. The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure.

White fillings

These days you no longer need to have unsightly amalgam fillings. White fillings now provide a much more aesthetic alternative. They are made of a resin and a glass-like material, which can be made to blend in with your own teeth so that the restoration is barely noticeable. White fillings are now comparable in strength and longevity to amalgam fillings. One of the biggest advantages of white fillings is that they can be bonded to tooth. This means that less tooth needs to be prepared and removed when restoring it.

Crowns

Crowns are an ideal way to rebuild teeth that have been broken, or weakened by decay or a very large filling. A crown fits right over the remaining part of the tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape and contour of a natural tooth. Crowns are sometimes also known as 'caps’. Crowns can be made of zirconia, which provides the highest aesthetics or porcelain bonded to precious metals, which provides added strength as well as aesthetics. Occasionally a gold crown may be required.

Braces

Orthodontic treatment, to straighten teeth for both adults and children, is available at The Dental Consultants. The purpose of orthodontics is to correct the positioning of your teeth to improve their function and appearance. People seek this treatment not only for aesthetic reasons but also for health reasons, as it can reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. You are a possible candidate for orthodontic treatment if you suffer from any of the below:

  • Overcrowding of teeth.
  • Gaps between teeth.
  • Asymmetrical teeth.
  • Protruding teeth.
  • Deep bite (upper teeth overly cover lower teeth).
  • Reverse bite (upper teeth bite inside lower teeth).
  • Open bite (front teeth remain apart when back teeth meet).

Invisible Braces

This is a great way of straightening mildly irregular teeth for people who want to see an improvement in their smile, but do not want to wear fixed braces. A series of clear plastic aligners are worn over a period of time to straighten teeth. The aligners need to be worn for a minimum of 22 hours per day and are taken out for eating and drinking. They need to be changed every two weeks. The patient is given several aligners to take home between orthodontic visits, but still needs to be seen by an orthodontist every 6-8 weeks. The advantages of this technique are that the aligners are very aesthetic and can be removed for social occasions and cleaning. However, they won’t work if they are not worn for a substantial part of the day.

Laser Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is an easy way for anyone to have a beautiful bright smile. It is an effective, painless and relatively simple procedure that is carried out by the dentist, and results in an almost instant improvement. Although occasionally, some people may experience slight sensitivity afterwards, this quickly wears off within a few hours. Having whiter teeth can give extra confidence, create a great impression and make you look younger and more attractive. If you ever feel uneasy about laughing or speaking in public because of your smile, teeth whitening may be the perfect solution for you. If you have a special event, a wedding or important social occasion coming up, why not visit us at The Dental Consultants and ask about teeth whitening?

Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into a pre-drilled socket in the jaw bone. This holds a replacement tooth or teeth in place and is anchored to the jawbone. Once a dental implant has been successfully fitted, the tooth will look and feel exactly the same as a natural tooth and will require no more care than a normal brushing and flossing routine. Dental implants are made from titanium, a metallic material that is well tolerated by bone and bone tissue. Titanium dental implants fuse with the natural bone and within a few months will be totally integrated naturally into the mouth.

Dentures

Replacing lost or missing teeth has substantial benefits for your health and appearance. A denture replaces the natural teeth and provides support for cheeks and lips. Without this support, sagging facial muscles can make a person appear older and reduce their ability to eat and speak. Dentures come in a variety of different types and materials. We would be happy to discuss suitable options with you.
